Vitamins are important for our growth, recovery and therefore health. Vitamins are not only found in food, but they are also incorporated into various skin care products.
There are a total of 13 vitamins that can be divided into two groups
- Fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K
- Water-soluble vitamins C and the B variants (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B8, B11 and B12).
Here we highlight vitamin E for you.
Vitamin E and nutrition
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin and is a collective name for 8 similar substances that occur naturally in our diet, including 4 tocopherols and 4 tocotrienols. Our bodies do not produce vitamin E themselves so we are supposed to get it mainly through our diet. It can be found in nuts, wheat germ, egg yolk, seeds, oily fish, green leafy vegetables, avocado and vegetable oils, for example.
Vitamin E and the skin
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that plays a key role in protecting the skin from environmental damage. It makes skin less prone to sunburn, limits the cell damage caused by the sun and, in combination with vitamin C, lightens pigmentation spots. Vitamin E also helps the skin protect itself from air pollution and other external factors that can produce free radicals. These free radicals can damage the structure of skin cells and lead to premature skin ageing.
In addition, vitamin E contributes to skin repair by helping to heal the skin and reduce scarring. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which can reduce redness and swelling.
What is the function of vitamin E?
- Hydration: it helps to strengthen the skin barrier and retain moisture, resulting in healthy and hydrated skin.
- Antioxidant protection: it provides protection against free radical damage.
- Skin softening: it soothes dry and rough skin.
Skin care with vitamin E
Regular use of products containing vitamin E can produce remarkable results:
- Improved skin texture: helps improve skin texture, making it softer and smoother.
- Anti aging: reduces wrinkles and fine lines.
- Healthy radiance: protects against free radical damage giving a radiant complexion.
