Hot baths & Happiness hormones

Hot baths & Happiness hormones

Taking a hot bath offers many benefits for your health and well-being. We have listed the most important ones for you.

A hot bath supports your well-being

Taking a hot bath reduces stress and relieves physical discomfort. Floating mimics being in the womb, which gives a sense of security and happiness. Bathing provides comfort and ease, and this allows your mind and then your body to relax.

Taking a hot bath regularly has a beneficial effect on your biological clock and on your mood. The warmth of the bath causes your body to produce more of the happiness hormone serotonin which makes you feel more happy.

A hot bath prevents and relieves skin complaints

Taking a hot bath with Dead Sea salt helps keep healthy skin healthy and makes it easier to remove dead skin cells (which can cause clogged pores and even infections). The rich palette of minerals in Dead Sea salt can be absorbed by the skin which can bring about various health-enhancing effects. A regular bath with Dead Sea salt improves skin moisture balance, reduces redness and roughness and creates a stronger skin barrier.

A hot bath improves circulation

When we immerse ourselves in warm water, our heart has to work harder and more efficiently. This stimulates blood flow, making natural processes in our body run more smoothly. For example, this helps repair and rebuild muscle fibres as well as reduce inflammation.

A hot bath relieves flu and colds

If you just can't get rid of your flu and colds, taking a hot bath is very effective. The rising steam from the hot water opens up your nasal cavity more and allows you to breathe deeper. It clears your nasal cavities and helps cleanse the chest and sinuses. It also relieves joint pain.

Temperature

The ideal temperature for your bath water depends mainly on your personal preference and the purpose of your bath. For most people, a comfortable temperature is 38 degrees Celsius.

Do you want to moisturise your skin well and prevent it from drying out? Then take a bath that is slightly less hot, this will help protect your skin from irritation, especially if you have dry and/or sensitive skin.

Want to take a bath for improved sleep? Then make sure the water temperature is about the same as your body temperature, between 34 and 37 degrees Celsius. This is because it calms your nervous system.

Time, duration and frequency

To make efficient use of the relaxing effect of a hot bath, a few hours before going to bed is a good time. The bath makes you tired, so it offers the ultimate preparation for a good night's sleep.

Bathing for too long can put too much strain on the circulation and dry out the skin. It is therefore recommended to limit your bathing session to a maximum of 20 minutes.

Taking a bath 1-2 times a week creates sustained mood improvement, a result similar to exercise. Good to know right?
