Our feet endure a lot each day but rarely get the attention they deserve. With a little care and a simple, pleasant routine, you can keep them in top condition – and prevent common issues.
Your Feet as the 'Third Kidney'
Did you know that your feet are often referred to as your "third kidney"? Many toxins that your kidneys cannot eliminate may still leave the body through the feet, thanks to the difference in pH levels. Additionally, a significant amount of toxins are expelled through the skin, which can manifest as rashes, red spots, or acne.
Foot Bath with Dead Sea Salt
A regular foot bath with Dead Sea salt not only relieves the skin but also supports the body in eliminating waste and toxins. It's particularly effective for athlete’s foot, sweaty feet, swollen feet, cold feet, and various skin issues, including bladder and kidney-related conditions. It can also aid in detox and slimming treatments.
For a refreshing foot bath, dissolve half a cup of Dead Sea salt in warm water and fill the basin up to the top of your feet. Soak your feet for 30 minutes, then let them air dry.
Tip: Drink a glass of water during and after the foot bath to stay well hydrated.
Prevent Calluses, Athlete’s Foot, and Cracks
Washing your feet: Wash your feet daily with lukewarm water and mild soap. Don’t forget to clean between the toes, where bacteria can accumulate.
Drying: Dry your feet thoroughly, especially between the toes, to reduce the risk of fungal infections.
Proper footwear: Wear shoes that fit well and provide proper support. Shoes that are too small may cause blisters and calluses, while oversized shoes can lead to friction.
Alternate your shoes: Switch shoes regularly to prevent odor buildup and reduce the risk of athlete’s foot.
Remove excess callus: Exfoliate your heels weekly to remove dead skin. Use a lava stone after every shower to gently remove excess callus.
Hydration: Massage your feet daily with a moisturizing foot cream. Don’t forget the cuticles and the spaces between the toes, but let the cream absorb fully before putting on socks.

Fungal Nails (Onychomycosis)
Suffering from fungal nails? Many over-the-counter treatments claim to be effective, but they can have side effects. Only use them when gentler methods have failed.
Try these tips:
- Take a Dead Sea salt foot bath twice a week.
- Dab the nail twice a day with a cotton pad soaked in vinegar.
- For a more intensive approach, soak the nail in vinegar for 15 minutes daily to allow the vinegar to penetrate underneath. You should see results after about two weeks.
- Keep your nails trimmed and regularly file the top of the affected nail, or have this done by a pedicurist.
- Wash your feet daily, dry them thoroughly with a clean towel, especially between the toes.
- Wear clean socks every day and change shoes regularly.
- Disinfect your shoes and socks with antifungal products.
- Wear socks made from natural fibers (like cotton) and leather shoes.
- In public showers and saunas, always wear flip-flops or shower shoes.
If these steps don't help, consult your doctor.
Happy Toenails
Have you taken good care of your feet? Don’t forget your toenails! Trim them after a shower or foot bath while they’re soft. Don’t cut them too short, and always trim in a straight line. File them into shape afterward. If you want to apply nail polish, first buff them gently and always use a base coat before applying color.
